Azannes-et-Soumazannes. Old Trades, an authentic and immersive experience

Looking for a timeless getaway, surrounded by nature and a vibrant heritage? Welcome to Les Vieux Métiers d'Azannes!
About twenty minutes from Verdun, the past comes back to life on Sunday, July 27th—the final date of the season—in a village unlike any other, thanks to its 450 residents. Visitors are immersed in 19th-century rural France and discover the skills and traditions of yesteryear.
Blacksmith, washerwoman, clog maker, tile maker, basket maker, thatcher, shingle maker... In total, more than 80 ancient or vanished trades are revealed over more than 17 hectares of plains and forests.
Here, there are no static display cases. You can hear the hammer hitting the anvil, smell the aroma of bacon waffles, and see plant fibers transformed into everyday objects in expert hands.
" The Azannes Village of Old Trades represents 40 years of volunteer work, 40 years of shared happiness, 40 years of transmission, carried out by more than 450 volunteers today," rejoices David Ledwon, director of the organizing association. "It's truly a wonderful journey."
And to mark this wonderful anniversary, a big village festival is a must!
Grease-and-oil maypoles, hay bale throwing, egg races... The public is happily invited to a grand fair where non-stop entertainment and old-fashioned games are sure to please families and friends alike. Acrobats, fire-eaters, jugglers, horse trainers, and even a Belgian folk troupe are also expected to delight the public. Not to mention the open-air dance hall!

The villagers are already restless at the thought of participating in the parades in traditional costumes that will take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The parade will start from the German camp, and then all that's left is to join the festive and colorful procession.
In the evening, starting at 7 p.m., volunteers are invited to a barbecue evening featuring a fire show, various entertainment, and a crazy open-air dance hall. A wonderful birthday, celebrated in style!
Sunday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Prices: adults €18, concessions €15, and free for children under 16. Special rates apply to those who come dressed in period costume. Visitors can participate in the evening for an additional fee. To avoid the queue, it is strongly recommended to reserve your place online at www.vieuxmetiers.com.
