He was at La Crème Festival: Pedro Winter, bearer of the Ed Banger torch

He has the smile of a kid who just found the key to the studio, and the experience of a wise man who has been pulling the strings of French electronic music for thirty years. For those who know him, he's a music legend. For others, he simply looks like an eternal teenager with a skater look. Even if you think you don't know anything about Pedro Winter, believe us, you know much more than you imagine. Manager of Daft Punk for over a decade and creator of the famous Ed Banger label, his role is fundamental in the evolution of French electronic music. Now that the wagons are hooked up for the more novice among you, it's time to dive into the world of this hitmaker who has never lost his childlike soul. We met him in the dressing rooms of La Crème Festival, in Villefranche-sur-Mer, on the occasion of the Ed Banger Party organized on June 22nd.

The Ed Banger Recipe

Comfortably seated in a baroque-inspired armchair, Pedro Winter throws himself on the candy box sitting on a table. "It's my secret. I don't have too many vices, but candy is my guilty pleasure," he says mischievously. As approachable and relaxed as a complete unknown, Pedro Winter cultivates a rare bonhomie for a man of his stature. "I started the label in 2003, so that's 22 years," he calculates. And in two decades, Ed Banger has seen a large number of nationally and internationally known artists pass through, among them Justice, the late DJ Mehdi, Cassius, SebastiAn and Vladimir Cauchemar. "I am aware of what we represent and I live with the heavy legacy, as well as a certain form of responsibility, of what this French Touch movement is, of which I am a proud ambassador, but without falling too much into nostalgia either."

Transmission and inheritance

His recipe for not sinking into melancholy? "Keep your ears open and reach out to a generation that will bring us a lot," he confides. In 2025, Ed Banger continues to innovate while remaining faithful to its values. On June 22, La Crème Festival handed over the reins to Pedro Winter for the organization of an evening dedicated to the label. Historic players were present, such as A-Trak, So_Me, Breakbot and Irfane, but not only. "It's not just members of the Ed Banger team, it's the extended family. We invited people we like like Girl Ultra, Elkka, Clémentine, or even Jwles (see opposite) , the rap revelation that I've been following for almost three years now. I find him truly unique and atypical, he stands out so much from the Parisian landscape and few people know it, but he builds a real bridge with the United States." As he nibbles on a crocodile (the candy, not the animal), Pedro Winter already has his eyes fixed on the next generation. The recipe remains the same: a pinch of madness, a lot of heart, and that unwavering desire to "make people dance."
