Do you know the Roman aqueduct tunnel that crosses the hill of Briarette? What do you know about the time when Briord was called Briorate? With at least two thousand years of human occupation, this small town on the banks of the Rhône is brimming with fabulous history.
The archaeological museum in the heart of the village has been a testament to this since 1960. But the museum is no longer open as frequently due to a lack of human resources: only two days of guided tours, led by volunteers from the Briord History and Archaeology Society, are offered this summer, including this Saturday.
An event not to be missed, to discover in particular the necropolis of Plantées, used from the 1st century BC until the 8th century . There will also be discussion of the excavations conducted by the Archeodunum company in 2001, which brought to light a 2000-year-old Gallo-Roman district.
Briord Archaeological Museum, Village Square. Saturday, July 19, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guided tours of the collections, including a guided tour of the Gallo-Roman aqueduct tunnel. Prices: €4, €2 for students and schoolchildren, free for children under 12 and job seekers.
