During the night, following social media posts aimed at "attacking and stinging women during the Fête de la Musique," 145 victims of stings came forward to the police in mainland France and overseas, the Interior Ministry said.

The Paris police prefecture reported 21 cases in its area of ​​the Île-de-France region, including 13 in Paris. "Some victims were taken to hospitals to undergo toxicological analyses," the ministry added.

In Paris, three investigations were opened after a 15-year-old girl, an 18-year-old boy, and a woman reported being bitten in three different locations in the capital, prosecutors said. All three fell ill.

Twelve people suspected of being the perpetrators of stings have been arrested in France, according to the ministry. In Angoulême, for example, four people were arrested. They are believed to have caused around fifty victims, according to a police source.

Beyond the stings, 371 people were arrested (326 in 2024) during the evening, including 89 in Paris (103 in 2024), according to the ministry's report. There were 305 police custody cases (22 in 2024), including 81 in Paris (75 in 2024).

Thirteen law enforcement officers were injured (20 in 2024), 14 participants in the festivities were seriously injured and 1,477 were slightly injured. According to a fire brigade count, there were 51 vehicle fires and 39 fires on public roads.

Unprecedented crowds and violence in Paris

In Paris, the public prosecutor's office recorded this Sunday at midday "around a hundred people in police custody" mainly for "intentional violence, particularly against (a person in a position of public authority), theft, carrying prohibited weapons, intentional damage, street selling" .

The Halles district, in the center, "was particularly problematic" with a "hostile public and two attempts to loot stores (Nike and Sephora)," the prosecutor's office explained.

Sexual assaults, stabbings and throwing missiles at police officers punctuated the Fête de la Musique, "marked by an unprecedented turnout in Paris with a considerable crowd mainly in the Canal Saint-Martin area and the centre of Paris" , it was added.

Five people, aged between twenty and thirty-one, were taken into custody early this Sunday morning for having dragged a police officer for around ten metres with a quad bike after he refused to comply in the 1st arrondissement.
