She pays tribute to Roya, her beloved valley, in a photo exhibition

Thursday evening, Fontan municipal council chambers. No politics on the agenda, but the opening of a photo exhibition dedicated to the Roya. Visitors immediately start to have fun trying to identify the spot where Sabrina Goeury's photos were taken. And it's clear that even the valley's connoisseurs stumble over some...
It's all a question of perspective, emphasizes Mayor Philippe Oudot. "Sabrina, who lives in Fontan, offers us a different view of our village and our valley, with her keen eye." The forty or so photos—printed in A3 or A4 format—allow us to travel, even in a familiar setting.
We'll set off to explore Fontan and its hamlets. The Roya River. The other villages in the valley. And the (stunning) landscapes it offers.
“Observing is my job.”Running until August 15, the exhibition will be open to the public every day from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Workshops will be held throughout the two weeks (*).
"I'm quite shy and reserved, so I wouldn't necessarily have imagined exhibiting ," jokes Sabrina Goeury. "But the mayor suggested it, and that helped me get started. The intention was really to showcase the valley. We often know it in relation to the storm, but it's much more than that. It's magnificent."
When choosing the photos to show the public – all taken "without artifice" – Sabrina says she pre-selected those she liked the most. "Then I kept a set of colors to make it harmonious."
The photographer explains that she began capturing moments while traveling. Initially, she wanted to preserve memories.
"I learned by practicing. And as I wanted to go further, I passed a professional baccalaureate in photography in 2021. By nature, I am contemplative. I am a medical-psychological assistant, so observing is my job," she explains .
Returning to Nice after six months in Ethiopia, she says she realized that the city was no longer right for her. "So I settled in Breil, then in Fontan , after falling in love with the valley ," she says. "Since then, I hike a lot on weekends. Often alone, except with my faithful companion: my camera! I can spend half an hour sitting in front of a landscape or a marmot..."
Photo walks in the valleyAs great new things never come alone, Sabrina is preparing to cross a new threshold, after her first exhibition. "I'm going to organize photography walks for those who are interested, with durations adapted to demand. The idea is to learn the basics while discovering the villages."
The principle is simple: a meeting point will be given to participants (equipped with a digital camera) in one of the Roya municipalities. Sabrina will begin with a discussion about settings, before inviting the group to wander around, camera in hand. The session will end with a debriefing and tips for improving their skills. This will allow everyone to then cultivate "their" eye.
