The heatwave that has been ongoing since Friday continues this Tuesday, with 14 departments on red alert, including 10 maintained at this level by Météo-France in the Southwest, where temperatures reached "an exceptional level" on Monday. The Rhône, Isère, Ardèche and Drôme will be placed on the same alert level.
Red alert, the highest, corresponds to an “extreme, exceptional heatwave in its duration, intensity and geographical extent”, with a strong impact on health and human activities.
This Tuesday, more than 60 other departments will be placed on orange alert, as the heatwave spreads to the northeast quarter of the country. Only nine departments remain on yellow alert and eight remain on green alert in the northwest quarter. "The heatwave is reaching the Centre region, the Paris region, Champagne, and Burgundy, with temperatures of 35 to 37°C widespread, and 38 or 39°C locally," Météo-France indicates in its latest bulletin.
