Moselle. The good health of the Saint-Joseph nursing home in Sarralbe

Moselle. The good health of the Saint-Joseph nursing home in Sarralbe

A new wing in operation, a quality certification obtained, a medical care and rehabilitation (SMR) service in a day hospital to come: the Ehpad Saint-Joseph hospital in Sarralbe will have many assets to present on May 24, during an open day.

The Saint-Joseph nursing home in Sarralbe returned to normal at the beginning of the year after two years of construction. While the extension may not be immediately obvious from the front, it has nonetheless changed the daily lives of patients. A 900 m² wing was built at the rear of the facility. It includes a third space for activities, a large terrace to facilitate walking, bedrooms, a family room, a physiotherapy area, and a new staff restaurant.

The icing on the cake is that the facility has just obtained its Quality of Care Confirmed certification , a key award issued by the French National Authority for Health. "Experts came for several days during December," explains Carole Szydlowski, director, "and we were certified at the beginning of April. It's a source of great satisfaction internally." Christelle Pierrard, care and quality coordinator, explains that several criteria had to be validated. "Firstly, on the patient level, including respect for dignity and confidentiality. Then, on the care level, for example, managing infection risks. Finally, on governance, regarding institutional strategy."

This certification is mandatory for a hospital to operate; those who fail the test must revise their exams. This won't be the case at Sarralbe. "But we will do everything we can, during the four years of this certification, to maintain our high standards." In the fall, the nursing home (EHPAD) section will be subject to the same review.

Good news doesn't come alone: the establishment has obtained authorization to open a day hospital in SMR, medical and rehabilitation care, a service which, under the leadership of Dr. Lorrène Pierrard, already operates as a full hospitalization. "This service will have five places. It could be a medical assessment at the request of a treating physician, the reception of vulnerable people, or even a bridge between full hospitalization and returning home." As the name suggests, patients will be cared for during the day, and will return home for the night, "all with multidisciplinary care."

Set up in existing premises, this day hospital should be operational by May 1, 2026.

Open house on Saturday, May 24

For the first time, the Saint-Joseph nursing home is hosting an open house on Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. "The goal is twofold," explains Carole Szydlowski, director. "We want to welcome applicants for future recruitment, both healthcare and non-healthcare staff. This will also allow members of the public, who are considering fostering an elderly person, to discover the facility."

To make this day a day of celebration for residents, students from the Sarralbe music school will showcase their talents, and a raffle will be held. Also noteworthy is the Franco-Japanese food truck, Izakata, by Michelin-starred chef Charles Coulombeau, who will be there to delight taste buds.
