"I couldn't help but keep the old spiral staircase. Look, I didn't repaint it, I wanted to preserve the patina!" explains bookseller and manager Déborah Dupont-Daguet, 45, who lovingly caresses the small cracks of celadon paint on the iron steps of the original staircase. Having moved into her new home since April 15, it's resplendent: "At our old address, on rue Montmartre, in the 2nd arrondissement, the rent had become too high. More than 10,000 euros a month! But above all, the city center had emptied out. With teleworking and Airbnbs, we no longer found the people who would drop by at lunchtime or in the evening to look for a last-minute gift or to read." For months, the woman who has run the shop since 2007 has been looking for a location for Libraire Gourmande, created in 1985, and its 20,000 references devoted to gastronomy and oenology, before finally finding one rue Vavin, in a former restaurant, a French bistro called the Parc aux cerfs.
