Animals, Ramot (Boehringer Ingelheim AH): "Access to veterinary care for public health"

"Ensuring Italian attractiveness in research and development to make the country more competitive"

"To promote public health, it is also important to increase access to veterinary care. We can do this through collaboration with private insurance, but also by deducting veterinary expenses." This was stated by Karin Ramot, CEO of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Italia, speaking at the event 'Future generations and animal health: the central role of research and innovation', organized on the initiative of Senator Guido Quintino Liris, which took place today at the Senate of the Republic, Rome. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss, in an institutional setting, the value generated by scientific research and innovation in the veterinary field.

"We need to ensure Italy's attractiveness in the field of veterinary research and development, because in this way we can make Italy more competitive and attract investments in the country - explains Ramot - It is also necessary to harmonize the rules and regulations at a European level, because these are issues that are not confined to one country or another. Innovation in the veterinary field is also important to guarantee human and environmental health: without animal health it is not possible to ensure them".

Unlike what happens in human pharmacological innovation, "in veterinary medicine it is necessary to create adaptations for each drug, because development is separate for each species - he underlines - We must adapt the palatability, the formulation and also the method of administration of each drug. The development process of drugs for veterinary use, therefore, lasts and costs more than those for human use. Investing in this area - he concludes - means ensuring human health and environmental health for future generations".
