The Municipality of Vergiate has awarded the keys to the city to Mario da Corgeno , an internationally renowned artist who has never wanted to leave his hometown. The ceremony, organized on the occasion of the artist's 80th birthday, took place in his home/atelier on Saturday, June 7.

"I was a child when I first heard about Mario da Corgeno, his art and his temperament," recalls the mayor of Vergiate Daniele Parrino . "Mario's works have toured the world, but he never wanted to leave his Corgeno. Here, in his home, many friends and fans of his works have been able to find a place of beauty and care. For us Vergiatesi, it is an honor to have such a talented citizen."

Many friends, local administrators and visitors took part in the event. A unique opportunity to observe the immense collection of paintings, sculptures and works created by Mario Favini in his very long career. In addition to the institutional ceremony, in fact, the cultural association Il Borgo di Lucio Fontana has set up an exhibition dedicated to the artist's works. The exhibition can be visited for free until June 29 .

During Saturday's event, the Mario da Corgeno Foundation was also inaugurated: the institution that from now on will be responsible for preserving his works and keeping alive his memory as an artist and a man full of humanity and respect for people and nature.

"The foundation - explains the president Romano Cajelli - was created to protect the memory of this friend of ours over time. Anyone who met Mario could always count on a kind word, good advice, a smile".
