The hiking route in Madrid that has no beginning or end and passes through more than 50 mountain villages.

There are thousands of hiking trails in Spain, and the vast majority of them cover stunning landscapes across the country. Some of them are vast, and in fact, there are more than 200 Long-Distance (GR) trails throughout the country, according to the Official Tourism Portal. However, few of these trails, over 50 kilometers long, can compare to the wonderful Carpetania Trail Network, a very special (and long) hike through the Sierra Norte of Madrid.

This network of trails isn't a typical hiking route, as it has no starting or ending point. Rather, the more than 700 kilometers it comprises intertwine to form a wonderful network of trails that cross more than fifty beautiful villages tucked away in the north of the Spanish capital. Its open structure allows trekking enthusiasts to combine several routes and create a magnificent, tailor-made journey.

This network allows those who explore it to connect with the most amazing nature of the Sierra Norte, exploring the most sublime corners of areas such as the Lozoya and Jarama valleys or the extraordinary Rincón and Cabrera mountain ranges. Walking along the trails leads to dozens of fascinating towns that are perfect rural tourism destinations, such as La Hiruela, Madarcos, El Berrueco, and Navalafuente, among many other villages nestled in unique settings.

The Carpetania Network trails combine architectural heritage, nature, and culture to create unique and special routes just a short distance from the city of Madrid. Exploring unique and sublime landscapes, hikers can discover dreamlike places while exploring incredible locations. All trails are marked with yellow markers, and as they are a continuous stream of paths, hikers can follow any route they wish.

On their website, you can see countless routes suitable for all types of hikers, from long distances like the Horizontal Integral MTB, which covers over 90 kilometers, to shorter ones like the Madarquillos Circular, which covers just seven kilometers. There are hundreds of options for trekking enthusiasts to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

By simply following the horizontal yellow markers, hiking enthusiasts can enjoy fairytale-like locations and connect with the most impressive nature in the autonomous community of Madrid. This environmentally responsible tourism is one of the best options for residents of the Spanish capital to escape the heat and immerse themselves in a completely magical world.
