There is space on the power grid in Gorinchem

$125 billion. With this amount, Brazil is launching a new fund for the protection of tropical forests, in the run-up to the climate summit the country is hosting in the Amazon. President Lula recently came under fire for building a highway through this rainforest for the summit. Regardless, the forest fund for Brazil is intended to be the summit's flagship project. The plan has received support, including from the Netherlands, but there are also concerns about the experimental financing structure. FD climate editor Eva Selderbeek explains why.

FNV supervisors Lodewijk Asscher and Ton Heerts are taking legal action to implement their plan for a new governance structure within the union. Last week, the FNV members' parliament voted against this plan by a narrow majority. The two interim supervisors now want to break this impasse urgently. They believe it is unjustifiable for the FNV to remain in a governance crisis for so long, especially now that a new cabinet is being formed. FD editor Alwine de Jong provides an update.

Businesses in Gorinchem were stuck: they could barely expand due to a tight power grid. Until they received unexpected good news from the grid operator this week.
