"The prosecutor's office won't be able to handle it." PiS MP wants a commission of inquiry into the KPO

"The prosecutor's office won't be able to handle it." PiS MP wants a commission of inquiry into the KPO

"This isn't just one bad subsidy or another. This is a system. This needs to be clarified. I believe a parliamentary investigative committee should be established during this term, because this matter urgently requires clarification," said PiS MP Marcin Jabłoński on the "Graffiti" program, referring to the controversy surrounding some of the subsidies from the KPO. He added that "the prosecutor's office won't be able to handle this matter."

Last week, internet users began posting online examples of companies from the HoReCa sector that received KPO subsidies for, among other things, yachts, saunas, coffee machines, solariums, furniture replacement, and the purchase of a virtual shooting range.

The Ministry of Funds announced audits into the matter, and the prosecutor's office has launched an investigation. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that he will not accept any waste of KPO funds and expects swift decisions and the revocation of funds in the event of abuse.

Paweł Jabłoński: This is a system that is prone to corruption

In the "Graffiti" program, PiS MP Paweł Jabłoński recalled that the National Recovery Plan was negotiated in 2021, when the hotel and catering industries suffered greatly during the pandemic crisis.

"They didn't get that money from the EU because there was a blockade inspired by the Civic Platform—they demanded sanctions against Poland. We then organized aid in the form of COVID shields," the politician said. "Today, four years after the pandemic, it's not the industry that's getting it, but a select few," he added.

"This is a system that is prone to corruption. Perhaps downright corrupt. This will need to be investigated," Jabłoński emphasized. "This isn't just one bad subsidy or another. It's a system. This needs to be explained. I believe that a parliamentary commission of inquiry should be established during this term, because this matter urgently requires clarification," the PiS MP emphasized.

Paweł Jabłoński: The prosecutor's office won't be able to handle it

In response to the comment by host Marcin Fijołek that the prosecutor's office was already investigating the case of irregularities regarding the KPO funds, Jabłoński replied that in his opinion "the prosecutor's office will not be able to handle it."

"This issue is too big. We're also dealing with a systemic mechanism—which is very clear—where some people simply knew they could submit these applications. Very often, these were either family members or friends of the ruling party," he explained.

As an example, he cited a statement by an MP who said in Polsat News' "Debate Gozdyra": "Half, or even most, of my friends, family, and friends also received funding under HoReCA." Later, on the X news site, she clarified: "I came back from the studio and checked – but no one from my family did."

The moderator asked whether, according to Jabłoński, at the level of personal responsibility, the resignation of the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy would solve the matter.

"Absolutely not. I have the impression that Donald Tusk wants to exploit this. It's no secret that he doesn't like Ms. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz. This is also an internal war within the coalition, and he will probably want to use it to make her a scapegoat. But he's the problem here. His supervision," Jabłoński explained.

He stressed that some resignations should take place in the ministry after checking who is responsible for the matter.
