A gigantic overpass is being built in the Podkarpacie region. Poland has never ridden so high
Many drivers can't wait for this investment to be completed. It is eagerly awaited not only by the residents of Podkarpacie, but also by many tourists who travel this way on foreign trips, towards Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and beyond.
Until now, the road leading to the crossing in Barwinek was not friendly to drivers. There were so many built-up areas, speed limits, winding driveways. This is to change thanks to the construction of the S19. But we will have to wait for that. The entire route is planned to be completed by the end of 2027.
For now, however, sections are being built that will be completed soon. One of them is the ES-26 overpass, which will be the highest structure in this project. It is an impressive structure, a kind of "road observation tower". At its highest point, it will reach 80 meters - a height comparable to the tower of St. Mary's Basilica in Krakow.
The designers had to deal with difficult terrain, creating foundations of impressive dimensions – piles with a diameter of 1.5 m and a length of 42 m. The construction of this eight-span giant will require huge amounts of materials: over 80,000 cubic meters of concrete and 16,000 tons of steel. Despite the winter conditions, work on the construction site is in full swing. A tower crane is currently working on the construction site, and another six are to be installed, which indicates the scale of the undertaking.
The new section of S19 is not only viaducts, but also a transport hub, a Service Area and infrastructure development. The entire project involves the creation of a two-lane expressway with an emergency lane, which will significantly improve the comfort and safety of travel. Existing roads and drainage facilities will also be rebuilt, all with the aim of ensuring traffic flow and environmental protection.
