Eighth-grade exam with major changes. MEN wants to help with recruitment

• Important information for eighth-grade students of primary schools - the date of the announcement of the results of the eighth-grade exam, which took place in May and June this year, is already known.
• It has been scheduled for next Friday, July 4, the Central Examination Board announced.
• Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Education announced that it plans to return - from the 2026/2027 school year - to the April date of the eighth-grade exam.

Eighth-grade exams (in Polish, mathematics and a modern foreign language) were held on 13, 14 and 15 May this year. Students who were unable to take this exam could do so between 10 and 12 June.

The Central Examination Board has scheduled the announcement of the results of the eighth-grade exam for July 4, 2025.

- On that day, students will receive certificates containing information about the results obtained in each of the three subjects . The results will be expressed in two formats: percentage - indicates the percentage of points obtained by the student, percentile - shows what percentage of candidates obtained a result equal to or lower - reminds the Interia portal.

It is noted that the results of the eighth-grade exam have a direct impact on the recruitment process for secondary schools. Points are awarded according to the following principles:

• Polish language - percentage score × 0.35;
• mathematics - percentage score × 0.35;
• modern foreign language - percentage score × 0.30.

In total, a student can earn 100 points from the exam. Another 100 points come from final grades on the certificate and additional achievements, such as participation in subject competitions or social activity.

- The eighth-grade exam serves a selective function in the context of admission to high schools, technical schools and vocational schools. Although formally it is impossible to fail it, its result is one of the most important criteria taken into account when establishing the lists of candidates qualified for a given school - we read in Interia.

The portal reminds that recruitment for secondary schools is conducted electronically , most often through platforms managed by city offices and education boards. Candidates have the opportunity to indicate their preferred schools and departments in order of priorities.

As we have already informed, the Ministry of National Education plans to return (from the 2026/2027 school year) to the April date of the eighth-grade exam.

The Ministry explains that this will allow the results of this exam to be announced, for example, in mid-June and will enable inspections and verification of the sum of points obtained before the end of the recruitment procedure for post-primary schools.

- Moreover, the dates for viewing the exam papers for the eighth-grade exam will not coincide with the dates for viewing the matriculation exam papers, which will also enable earlier announcement of the matriculation exam results - indicates the Ministry of National Education.
