MEN plans changes to school principal appointments. Students can sit on the committee

Deputy Minister of Education Joanna Mucha said that there are ideas for students to be included in the process of choosing a school principal . However, she assessed the information that students will choose school principals as greatly exaggerated.

"DGP" reported that a team of experts appointed by the Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka recommended including student representatives in the process of appointing school principals.

She stressed that the matter was not a done deal. She noted that she had not spoken to the Minister of Education about the matter.

"DGP" pointed out that, in accordance with the applicable regulations, the director of a school or educational facility is appointed for five school years, and the candidate is selected through a competition.

The competition jury includes representatives of:

• governing body,
• education board,
• pedagogical council,
• parents' advice,
• trade union representatives.

According to "DGP", in accordance with the proposal of the Team for Student Rights and Obligations , two adult representatives of the student government would also join the committee.

If there are no adult students at the school, younger students could participate in the process as observers - with the right to ask questions of the candidates.

As Katarzyna Lubnauer previously reported, the recommendation regarding the participation of student government representatives in the work of the commission selecting a candidate for school principal was positively received by the MEN management.

In the coming months, it will be forwarded for further conceptual work at the ministerial level and analysed in order to examine the possibilities and methods of its implementation.
