The exhibition of Caravaggio's works is a hit. Hundreds of thousands of visitors. Will it be a record?

Let us recall that the exhibition "Vermeer", which was also attended by many art lovers from Poland, was viewed by 650 thousand people from 113 countries. The event thus broke the world record in terms of the number of people who visited it.

The reason for such a great success was completely understandable: the exhibition featured as many as 28 of Vermeer's 37 surviving works, including such famous works as "Girl with a Pearl Earring", "The Milkmaid", "The Lacemaker" and "The Reading Letter". The museum also sold over 100,000 albums from the exhibition, which is another record in the history of this institution.

There are many indications that the current exhibition "Caravaggio 2025" will manage to approach the result of "Vermeer" and perhaps even break the record. In the first three weeks of the exhibition, over 400 thousand tickets were purchased. Enthusiasts of Caravaggio's work from all over the world are coming to Rome to see his masterpieces.

Caravaggio Exhibition in Rome: A Major Tourist Attraction

The exhibition "Caravaggio 2025" includes such famous works of the master as "Ecce Homo", "Judith Beheading Holofernes", "The Card Players", "The Concert" and "John the Baptist", as well as a number of lesser-known but no less valuable works. The organizers of the exhibition describe it as "one of the most important and ambitious projects" that offers "a unique opportunity to show Caravaggio's art in a new light".

The exhibition is arranged in four rooms in chronological order. The individual sections of the exhibition are given telling titles: "The Roman Debut", "Bringing Dark Shadows to Life", "Holiness and Tragedy between Rome and Naples" and "The Last Stage".

An additional 25th work by Caravaggio is located outside the Barberini Palace. A work called Pluto, Neptune and Jupiter, the only painting the artist painted on a ceiling, is located in the nearby Villa Aurora.
