In most Polish municipalities , applications for school grants are submitted between September 1st and September 15th of the current school year. Therefore, there's limited time. However, it's important to know how much money your child is entitled to and what the conditions are.

The scholarship amount paid to students ranges from PLN 99.20 to PLN 248.00 per month. The scholarship can be paid for a period of one to ten months in a given school year.

Students up to 24 years of age can receive a school scholarship.

Financial assistance in the form of a school scholarship is available to:

  • students of public and non-public schools with the rights of public schools for youth and adults and students of colleges for social service workers - until they complete their education, but no longer than until they reach the age of 24,
  • pupils of public and non-public rehabilitation and educational centers - until they complete their compulsory education.

The scholarship may be awarded to a student whose guardians are in a difficult financial situation resulting from a low family income of no more than PLN 823 net per person . Particular consideration is given to individuals whose family is affected by unemployment, disability, serious or long-term illness, large families, inability to perform caregiving and educational functions, alcoholism or drug addiction, as well as when the family is single-parent or has experienced an unexpected event.

A school scholarship may be granted to students in the form of full or partial coverage of the costs of participation in educational activities , including compensatory activities, beyond those carried out at school as part of the curriculum, as well as participation in educational activities carried out outside the school; material assistance of an educational nature, including in particular the purchase of textbooks.

Detailed legal solutions regarding the implementation of assistance for students in a given commune must be included in the commune's regulations on financial assistance of a social nature, in which the Commune Council determines its amount and the form and method of granting the benefit.

School allowance - who is entitled to it and how to get it

In addition to the school scholarship, some students may also apply for a school allowance . The Ministry of National Education website states that this benefit is available to students who are temporarily in financial difficulty due to an unexpected event, such as the death of a parent, or whose financial situation has deteriorated for other reasons.

It was clarified that the school allowance may be granted in the form of a cash benefit to cover expenses related to the educational process or in the form of educational assistance in kind.

Moreover, this benefit may be granted once or several times a year, regardless of the school grant received, and cannot exceed at any one time five times the amount of the family benefit for a child aged 5-18.
