Currently, there are many products on the market that contain magnesium and other ingredients. However, it is worth remembering that not all ingredients can be combined with it, because they interfere with its absorption.

It has been known for a long time that magnesium is one of the most important elements in our body. It is responsible for, among other things, the functioning of the nervous and muscular systems. However, its deficiency can lead to a feeling of fatigue, muscle cramps, and in some cases even heart rhythm disorders.
Beneficial combinations with magnesium:
- magnesium and vitamin B6 – this is one of the most popular and beneficial combinations, vitamin B6 supports the absorption of magnesium and increases its concentration in cells. Taking magnesium and B6 together may bring better results than supplementing each of these ingredients separately;
- magnesium and vitamin D - vitamin D plays a key role in the regulation of calcium metabolism, but also in the absorption of magnesium;
- Magnesium and Vitamin C - Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can support the absorption of magnesium, but excessive doses of vitamin C can have a laxative effect, which can lead to magnesium loss.
It is a good idea to take magnesium in the evening, especially if you have muscle cramps or difficulty sleeping. It is also best to take magnesium supplements with a meal to increase its absorption.
Magnesium. These combinations are best avoidedThere are also combinations that are very unfavorable when using magnesium. It is worth remembering them to properly supplement the elements:
- magnesium and calcium - taking them together can lead to problems with absorption in the intestines. It is better to take them separately and at different times of the day;
- magnesium and iron - iron can also compete with magnesium for absorption;
- magnesium and zinc – zinc may also reduce the absorption of magnesium and it is better to consider taking it at a different time of day than magnesium;
- magnesium and phosphorus – combining them can cause stomach problems;
- magnesium and oxalates – oxalates reduce the absorption of magnesium.
Magnesium cannot be combined with other drugs. The most unfavorable combinations include (according to Medonet.pl):
- antibiotics - tetracycline and ciprofloxacin may affect the absorption of magnesium, which is especially important for people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis;
- Antiepileptic drugs – magnesium supplements may affect the absorption or effectiveness of some antiepileptic drugs;
- Thyroid medications — may reduce magnesium absorption;
- drugs used to treat osteoporosis – this mainly concerns drugs that block the absorption of bisphosphonates, which maintain normal bone density, and magnesium may negatively affect this process.
