A new list of sanitary-epidemiological stations performing specific laboratory tests and measurements will come into effect on November 1st. This is according to a draft regulation from the Minister of Health, which has been submitted for public consultation.

The draft regulation of the Minister of Health on the list of sanitary and epidemiological stations performing laboratory tests and measurements, with an indication of the area , is at the public consultation stage.
As we read in the Regulatory Impact Assessment, performing laboratory tests and measurements is an important element of the activities of sanitary and epidemiological stations, which determines the proper implementation of the statutory tasks of the State Sanitary Inspectorate bodies.
Currently, laboratories operate in a limited number of organizational units of the State Sanitary Inspection, i.e., in 16 provincial sanitary-epidemiological stations and in some district sanitary-epidemiological stations. However, none of the operating laboratories is capable of performing the full spectrum of tests necessary to implement the statutory oversight of the State Sanitary Inspection bodies .
The project promoter points out that the presented state of affairs results, among other things, from the fact that emerging new epidemic threats, related national and international guidelines, as well as progress in the field of laboratory research, necessitate the continuous expansion of the scope of research conducted and the implementation of new research methods.
Establishing a new list of sanitary-epidemiological stations performing laboratory tests and measurements, with an indication of the area, will contribute to ensuring the optimization of tests and thus greater reliability of their results, as well as a faster response to health threats and compliance with international and national public health standards - we read in the justification for the project.
It was proposed that the regulation would enter into force on 1 November 2025. The adopted vacatio legis period will, in turn, allow for the adaptation of internal procedures for conducting tests and their settlement to the changes introduced by the provisions of the proposed regulation.
The entities affected by the project are the bodies of the State Sanitary Inspection:
- 16 state provincial sanitary inspectors,
- 318 state district sanitary inspectors,
- 9 state border sanitary inspectors
- in the scope of performing laboratory tests and measurements as part of the statutory tasks of state sanitary inspectors.
