It is not to be expected that Pope Leo XIV will hold in his hands the disruptive talent of his predecessor, the Argentine Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who, between 2013 and 2025, managed to reconcile the secular and atheist world with the Church, even more than reconciling the Church with its time – not least because he did not change the official doctrine of the institution which, bringing together around 1.4 billion faithful worldwide, continues to exclude the many who have adopted lifestyles that continue to have no place among Catholics.
