Thursday's strike is for technical assistants and Friday's is dedicated to operational assistants.
Adherence to the first of three days of strike called by the National Federation of Unions of Workers in Public and Social Functions (FNSTFPS) is "above 50%", according to coordinator Sebastião Santana.
The FNSTFPS, affiliated with the CGTP, decided that each of the three days of strike would be directed at one of the general careers in the public service, "given the lack of response to the problems" of these workers.
Thus, today's national strike is aimed at senior technicians and, taking into account that "this career covers nearly 50,000 workers", it has around 25,000 professionals on strike, including the "central administration and the two regional administrations, the Azores and Madeira", the union leader told Lusa.
Thursday's strike is for technical assistants and Friday's is dedicated to operational assistants.
The coordinator, present at the press conference at the Social Security Financial Management Institute, stated that senior technicians "at the end of last year had already lost 219 euros in purchasing power compared to 2010".
He added that "technical assistants [lost] almost 100 euros, and operational assistants continue to receive the national minimum wage, with the added problem of this year having to pay IRS".
Thus, the leader demanded that "the Government sits down at the table to negotiate the valorization of careers", stating that he postpones the negotiation "until 2027", however this "has to start now".
