Solomon , chosen following an international recruitment process to take on the role, will succeed historian António Filipe Pimentel, who will retire at the beginning of 2026.

Born in Rome in 1979, Salomon grew up between Italy and the United Kingdom. He studied at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, where he obtained a degree in History of Art, as well as a master's and a doctorate, according to a statement released today by the Gulbenkian Foundation.

Salomon has worked at the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, among other institutions.

His main areas of expertise are art and patronage in 17th and 18th century Rome and Venice, and the painters Paolo Veronese and Rosalba Carriera.
