Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said this Thursday that there will be an opportunity for political scrutiny, in the Assembly of the Republic, with the presence of the Government, on the report on the case of the death of a man during an INEM strike.
“I believe that there will be opportunities for all the reports that have been produced in this regard to be subject to political scrutiny in the Assembly of the Republic with the presence of the Government and that is what will certainly happen”, said Luís Montenegro, in short statements on the sidelines of the European Council meeting in Brussels.

At issue is the conclusion of the General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS), in a position known on Wednesday, that the death of a man in November 2024, when the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) strike took place, could have been avoided if he had been rescued within a minimum and reasonable time.
“It was concluded that the patient's death could have been avoided if there had been assistance, in a minimum and reasonable time , which made it possible to evacuate the victim via a Coronary Green Route to one of the nearest hospitals, where he could undergo coronary angioplasty in one of the respective Hemodynamic Units”, said the IGAS in a statement released on Wednesday.
This case dates back to November 4, 2024, the day on which two strikes took place simultaneously – one by pre-hospital emergency technicians working overtime and another by public administration.
The PS announced that it will request an urgent hearing of the Minister of Health in parliament regarding the IGAS report regarding INEM, considering that it is time for Ana Paula Martins to “assume her responsibilities”.
Also today, IL announced that it will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the management of INEM , one day after it was reported that the death of a man in November 2024, during a strike at the institute, could have been avoided.
