Beyond Cleaning: 3 Sponge Tricks That Can Save Your Day

Sponges are a widely used kitchen tool, especially when washing dishes. Some people also use them for other household tasks . However, their uses go far beyond that, says personal organizer Glaucia Zanicotti .
Perhaps few people know, but placing a used sponge with a spoonful of salt or baking soda inside the refrigerator can help preserve food.
"A sponge sprinkled with a teaspoon of salt or baking soda helps absorb moisture from inside the refrigerator, making fruits and vegetables last longer. This trick also helps eliminate bad odors," explains Glaucia Zanicotti.
Another tip from the personal organizer is to reuse used sponges. "When the abrasive part loses its strength, they're perfect for cleaning glass and tiles, as they don't scratch. They can also be used for heavier cleaning tasks, with products like kerosene, which is a great degreaser."
Glaucia also mentions an unusual use for sponges in gardening. "Sponges are great for helping seeds germinate because they keep the soil moist."
