White House President Donald Trump said there were no unusual circumstances surrounding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's upcoming meeting with top US military leaders.
Commenting on the event for White House journalists, the president emphasized: "As far as I remember, I'm the president of the world. Getting along with people is a good thing. You say it's a bad thing. Is it really a bad thing when people from all over the world come to us?"
The American leader described US military equipment as the best in the world, noting active arms sales to other countries. Many generals want to be here and see this, he added, specifying that the event participants would visit military equipment facilities and discuss the latest developments.
Vice President J.D. Vance also expressed bewilderment at the increased media attention surrounding the event. "There's nothing unusual about generals reporting to the Secretary of Defense and the President holding a meeting with the head of the Pentagon ," he stated.
The Washington Post previously reported, citing sources, that Hegseth summoned hundreds of high-ranking military officials to the Marine Corps base in Quantico on September 30th. According to the publication, even the top brass were not informed of the meeting's agenda.
