Neurologist Vladimir Martynov warned about the dangers of excessively long sleep.
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, the specialist noted that sleeping more than 10 hours a day can cause serious health risks.
Too much sleep often serves as a marker of hidden pathologies - hypothyroidism, depressive states or apnea syndrome. At the same time, prolonged rest itself increases the likelihood of developing a stroke, diabetes and premature death, the doctor explained.
The neurologist also drew attention to the fact that the body usually independently regulates the time needed for recovery during sleep. However, if a person sleeps for 10-12 hours but continues to feel lethargic, this may be a reason to contact specialists, the neurologist added.
