Google fined for news sharing! Another country raises the flag of rebellion! Turkish publishers also demand their rights

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME
Google has been sued and fined by many countries for causing advertising damage in local media. Some of these cases include:
- In February 2024, a lawsuit of 2.1 billion euros was filed against Google by 32 media groups, including Axel Springer and Schibsted, on the grounds that their revenues had decreased due to unfair competition.
- The Information Media Association (AMI), representing 83 media companies in Spain, filed a €550 million lawsuit against Meta, Facebook’s parent company, claiming that it caused unfair competition in the advertising market. AMI stated that Meta systematically collected users’ personal data through its social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and gained an unfair advantage.
- In March 2024, the French Competition Authority fined Google 250 million euros for not paying adequate fees to French publishers whose content it used.
- January 5, 2025 Google has agreed to pay media organizations through the Canadian Journalism Collective to obtain exemptions from the Online News Act. The company has given CAD$100 million to the non-profit Canadian Journalism Collective.
