Living in Izmir, Sabiha Demirden has been admitted to hospitals many times for approximately 4 years with complaints of nausea, heartburn and vomiting. First diagnosed with a stomach tumor and operated on, Sabiha Demirden had a hysterectomy when her complaints continued. When she could not regain her health, she was also treated for a lung infection. She was discharged with the words "You are getting better" but her condition continued to deteriorate. Demirden regained her health after the 2.5-hour surgery.
"HE HAD EXCESSIVE VOMITING WITH FECAL CONTENT"Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır stated that Sabiha Demirden could not even communicate with him when he applied, and said, She had excessive vomiting of feces. She had to stay away from us because of her constant need to go to the bathroom. Prof. Dr. Çakır, who stated that the narrowing in the intestines can sometimes be caused by a mass or intense inflammation, said: The patient had gone through a very difficult process before applying to me. He had applied to hospitals many times in both Izmir and Antalya. I was tired of examining his e-pulse. As with all our patients, while examining his history via e-pulse, we examined his previous surgeries and the films taken before those surgeries one by one. Because when we entered the abdomen, we had to know well whether there was not only this factor but also any other problem inside. The surgery report stated that there was a mass at the exit of the stomach, that the passage was completely difficult due to this mass and that the mass was connected to the surrounding veins. Gastric bypass surgery was performed for this reason. However, although it was written in the old surgery note, we did not interpret the patient's condition as the presence of a mass.
"WE DID NOT SEE A TUMOR IN THE PREVIOUS SURGERY AREA"Prof. Dr. Çakır, who emphasized that he also checked the area where the gastric bypass surgery was performed after intervening in the problematic area during the surgery, said that he saw that there was no mass in that area. Prof. Dr. Çakır, There may have been a hardening in those areas due to the ulcer that the patient had. We also definitely clarified that the patient did not have a tumor diagnosis. During the surgery, we saw that the passage at the junction of the small intestine and the large intestine had completely stopped. During the surgery, we had to remove the narrow part of the large intestine, especially on the right side. We connected the remaining large intestine to the continuing small intestine, he said.
Emphasizing that all of the patient's clinical complaints completely regressed after approximately 72 hours and his nutrition returned to normal, Prof. Dr. Çakır said that his defecation functions also improved. Stating that the patient was around 41 kilos when he underwent surgery and reached 54 kilos 3 months after the surgery, Prof. Dr. Çakır said, The patient was very thin when he underwent surgery. Now, he will probably need treatment from a dietician. Because the patient says he cannot stop eating and his appetite has increased excessively. Stating that seeing his patient regain his health made him very happy, Prof. Dr. Çakır said, When we reached this point, we saw how good a job we really did.
"MY COMPLAINTS NEVER GO AWAY"Sabiha Demirden stated that her complaints started in 2021 and said, “After the gastric bypass surgery, the vomiting and nausea did not end, they only eased. When I was referred to the gynecologist, they also said ‘surgery’. My uterus was removed, but my nausea and vomiting continued. When I applied to the hospital again, this time they said ‘there is a lung infection, that is why I have the complaints’. I was hospitalized for 10 days and treated for the lung infection. However, my complaints continued when I was discharged. When I got sick when I went home, I applied to the emergency room again. I was under observation there for 24 hours. Then a doctor gave me the name of Prof. Dr. Tuğrul Çakır. The problems I experienced ended with the intestinal surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Çakır. I am grateful to him. I was 70 kilos before my complaints started, I dropped to 41 kilos when I went into surgery. I had surgery 3 months ago and started to gain weight rapidly. I am now 54.5 kilos, thank God.”
Saying that I missed eating like a human being, Sabiha Demirden said that during her illness, she would immediately throw up even if she ate two spoons of soup. Demirden, who said that she could not even sit at the same table with her family, said, Because I felt the need to take two bites and then get up and go and throw it up. That's why I didn't eat or drink anything. Right now, I eat whatever is put in front of me. I feel like I'm reborn, she said. Demirden, who said that she thought she was about to leave this world during the difficult process she experienced, stated that she regained her health after the surgery she had and her life returned to normal.
"I REUNITE WITH MY MOTHER"Explaining that they had very difficult days during her mother's illness, Yağmur Demirden (23) said that she always thought, 'Will my mother die?' Saying, 'I had fears. I used to think that my mother will leave me one day,' Yağmur Demirden stated that she has always been by her mother's side since 2021 and that she also postponed her university exams during this period.
