Stating on the phone that her disabled child had choked on a plum, mother NA said, "The plum I gave to my disabled child got stuck in his throat. You need to do something for me, tell me, urgently."
Öznur Bolat, an emergency medical technician at the Osmaniye Provincial Ambulance Service Chief Physician Training Unit, answered the call and guided the mother through the Heimlich maneuver, maintaining her composure thanks to her training and experience.
The mother performed the Heimlich maneuver upon the instructions given and managed to get the plum stuck in her son’s throat out. Technician Bolat, who directed the mother on the phone for treatment, directed the Düziçi 3 No. 112 team to the address. The health teams reached the village within 9 minutes and checked the patient’s general condition. Emergency Medical Technician Öznur Bolat wished the woman to get well soon and asked her to contact the call center again in case the patient’s health condition deteriorates.
Those life-saving moments were reflected in the call center records. Emergency Medical Technician Bolat, in his statement at the Osmaniye Provincial Ambulance Service Chief Physician's Office where he works, said that he tried to calm the mother down and said, "It was a very proud moment to help a patient with my professional experience and what this training has given me. I am a mother too. I understand that mother's anxiety and worry very well. The relief in the mother when the plum came out of her throat also spread to me. I was very happy."
