Taylor Swift Might Finally Headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show

The likelihood of a Taylor Swift Super Bowl performance may be rising.

On September 3, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sat down with TODAY to share what he knew about the possibility of her taking the halftime stage next year.

“We would always love to have Taylor play,” he said. “She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time.”

When asked if a Swift Super Bowl performance was in the works, he replied, “I can’t tell you anything about it,” but said that “it’s a maybe.”

As for when fans could expect an official announcement, Goodell joked, “I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z. It’s in his hands. I’m waiting for the smoke to come out.”

Jay-Z and his entertainment company Roc Nation have produced the Super Bowl halftime shows since 2020, the year that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez co-headlined in Miami.

And this isn’t the first time Swift has been a contender. According to TIME, she allegedly declined to perform “for years” due to having a “long-term partnership” with Coca-Cola. (The show was previously sponsored by Pepsi before Apple Music took over). And in 2022, TMZ reported that she was offered the Super Bowl LVII slot (which ultimately went to Rihanna), but she turned it down because she didn’t want to perform until she had finished rerecording her albums. But that should no longer be a barrier now that she owns all of her music.

So, will Swift finally take the halftime stage after all these years? Time will tell, but it’s looking positive.
