5 Great Dressers That Will Fit in Your Closet

- Elegant and simple
- Can easily fit in most closets
- Can be put together easily without tools
- The other finishes cost more
If I had to pick one dresser that I know will look nice and last me the years I need it to, Thuma is top of the list. The 5x1 Nest dresser is a perfect fit for my closet space—and therefore most larger closets—and comes in a number of wood finishes. It's gorgeous and simple—all I need, really.
Best of all, the drawers come pre-assembled and you just need to put them together. With easily labeled instructions, this whole process takes less than 10 minutes. Our commerce director Krista Jones reviewed the Thuma dresser back in 2023 and can speak to how easy that assembly is:
"It’s literally just stacking. You've been doing it since you were a toddler. Honestly, getting rid of the boxes took me twice as long as this process."

- Looks really nice for a $200 dresser
- Can fit easily in more shallow closets
- Narrowness means not as much space for clothes
- Assembly is time consuming
If you want something closer to $200 than $2,000, we can't entirely blame you. Turns out you can get some nice stuff on a budget. It just might not last you as many years before it starts to wear. So obvious build-quality considerations aside, this is a nice, spacious five-drawer that will fit in your closet. It is a bit narrow, but that won't prevent you from stacking your shirts sky high in its tall drawers that can hold up to 25 pounds each.
The biggest downside is the DIY nature of assembly. This Wayfair selection is on IKEA levels of building. It's not complicated; it just will take your time ... unless you pay Wayfair an additional $110 on top of the price of the dresser.

- Beautiful wood finish
- Slotted base that makes it feel more open
- Soft closing drawers with high quality joints
- Expensive, even at the current discount
- Can't store anything in the base
Hello, gorgeous. This wood (walnut or oak, your choice) dresser from Design Within Reach doesn't scream luxury, as much as it silently suggests it from your closet. If you're here that's exactly the kind of thing you're looking for. Its dimensions are well within my range (a little on the short side but oh well) and the build quality is out of this world. The clean lines are matched functionally by the smooth drawers—with the slotted base beneath making the whole thing feel a bit more "open air" than the average dresser.
I can't ignore the price tag and how, even at its current incredible 30 percent off discount, it's quite steep.

- Eight total drawers
- Brass pull handles on each drawer
- Delivery includes assembly
- Might be too big for
This eight-drawer dresser is a perfect fit for a larger closet than the one I have, but I figured I needed at least one option for larger spaces. And why pick more than one when the Verruca Tall Dresser is literally everything you need? With eight drawers (four large and four small), this rivals a double dresser, only without the extra width—it only measures 35.5 inches wide.
This is a gorgeous black piece, accented by the shiny brass pulls. The overall effect is equal parts stunning and useful—those handles really are necessary when opening the wide drawers.
Our favorite detail is the included white glove delivery in the cost of the dresser. We should've known we can count on Lulu and Georgia for bringing the best in luxury furniture to you without making you lift a finger.

- Smoked oak finish is nice
- Smooth, airy drawers
- Space underneath for shoes, etc
- Not as much space as other options
- White oak finish is too pale
If you want something that gives you a little more space on top, or you simply don't feel the need to pay for five drawers, Article makes a great four-drawer dresser. Looks great too—as long as you get it in the smoked oak. The white oak is too pale and cold to look all that nice. It just depends how much aesthetics matter to you in an in-closet dresser.
For me, it's a nice-to-have. So what really sells this Article dresser (aside from the very reasonable price tag) are the drawers. They are so airy and no matter how much of a rush I'm in when I slam them shut, they close quiet. Every time. There's also some space underneath. Usually I'm not a fan of this (waste of precious apartment space), but the gap on this one is big enough where you can genuinely store more than just the shoes you're slipping off.

My needs are specific, sure, but I'm not crazy. I need something that stands tall, but not too tall, and makes use of the space. It can't stick out too far either—not more than like 20 inches deep. Nothing with long legs and no armoires. Importantly, nothing that's too wide and will take up space where the shoe rack lives.
My current cheap dresser measures 29.5 inches across, and it's nigh impossible to find something that's nice and hits that dimension. Generally, I'm looking at anything 33 for smaller closets and around 37 for wider closets. I'm also going to assume if you have a closet so big that you don't have to worry about space, you probably also have space to just put a dresser elsewhere.
In terms of height, my current dresser measures 42.5 inches tall. It's almost the perfect height, but I could use a couple more inches, so ideally I was looking for dressers between 45 and 48 inches tall. That way my hanging clothes still have room to hang and not get bunched up at the bottom.

Hey, what the hell is a closet dresser?
It is a dresser that fits in your closet. Next question.
Okay, smart stuff, how do I know if a dresser will fit in my closet?
You specifically? You definitely have to measure it. You want it to be able to fit snugly in your closet, with room to hang your other clothes and room to open the drawers easily as well.
So what am I looking for here?
Something more tall than wide, and not too deep. With plenty of vertical storage and drawers that are well built. Bonus points if you don't have to construct it yourself.
