Reality TV star Maura Higgins recently gave fans a health update after posting a mirror selfie in a red hospital gown. The Love Island alum revealed she underwent an MRI scan but kept details about her condition under wraps—until now.
The 34-year-old Irish model shared a snap on Instagram with the caption, “MRI ready”, taken in a hospital changing room. While she didn’t disclose the reason for the scan at the time, she later opened up about persistent knee pain affecting her daily life.
In a previous post, Maura described her discomfort, saying,
“It feels like there’s a pulse inside of it & it’s also on fire.”
She admitted the pain worsened due to “running around” during her recent move into a £1.25 million Essex home.
Doctors are yet to confirm the exact cause, but an MRI could reveal ligament damage, inflammation, or other underlying issues. The NHS states that MRIs are non-invasive scans used to diagnose internal injuries.
A History of Health StrugglesThis isn’t the first time Maura has faced serious health concerns. In 2022, she nearly died from toxic shock syndrome (TSS) after accidentally leaving a tampon in for three months. She recalled,
“I was so ill… There were people that have died from that happening.
She also battled severe bladder inflammation in the past, admitting, “I’m as much in the dark as you guys” before undergoing tests.
Balancing Health and a Thriving CareerDespite her health setbacks, Maura continues to expand her career. She recently stepped down from hosting Love Island USA Aftersun to join The Traitors US, teasing, “Don’t get too comfy, I’m coming back”.
Her rising fame has also landed her major deals, including a contract with Elite Model Management and a L’Oreal partnership.
