Spain to invest €1.1 billion in Alicante airport expansion

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro on Thursday presented "the largest investment in Aena in recent decades", with €13 billion to be allocated to the Spanish airport operator between 2027 and 2031.

More than one billion of this public money will go to the development of Alicante-Elche airport, more precisely to the expansion of the passenger terminal and the creation of a new taxiway.

The old passenger terminal will be demolished and a new satellite section for non-Schengen passengers will be built on the site.

The right-wing regional government of Valencia, the region where Alicante is, have referred to the investment as "crumbs", far below what Alicante-Elche airport brings into Spain in terms of revenue.

Real Madrid's Asencio to stand trial in underage sex video case

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio will stand trial along with three former Los Blancos youth team players in a case regarding distribution of a sexual video involving a minor, Spain's judicial governing body said on Thursday.

A Las Palmas court declared "the opening of oral proceedings against the four footballers allegedly involved in the recording and/or non-consensual distribution of videos with sexual content involving a minor and another young woman," read a statement from Spain's General Council of the Judiciary.

Asencio confirmed in May that he was one of the men accused in the case, but protested his "innocence of any criminal conduct", and said that the court had not accused him of participating in, or filming, the video.

Madrid parents rebel against Ayuso's school ban on supporting Gaza

Schools and parents' associations have rejected calls from Madrid regional President Isabel Ayuso to ban Palestinian flags and what she deems "indoctrination" activities in classrooms.

At least 10 schools in the Madrid region have been ordered to stop "awareness-raising activities against genocide" as well as allowing flags or T-shirts, according to the teachers' collective Marea por Palestina: Educación contra el genocidio.

Almost fifty parents' associations have signed a statement for freedom of expression and human rights education. Its spokesperson, Mari Carmen Morillas, explained the pain many parents in Madrid feel over the murders of Gazan children: "We will take whatever actions are necessary to continue to demand an end to this genocide and all the wars and conflicts that are taking place."

British woman arrested in Benidorm accused of killing her friend with a vacuum cleaner cable

Spanish police have arrested a 64-year-old British tourist in Benidorm for her alleged involvement in the death of her friend with whom she was holidaying in the popular resort town.

According to sources in the investigation cited by Cadena Ser, the victim was strangled with a hoover cable in the flat where the two were staying.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in a house in the Rincón de Loix neighbourhood, an area of the tourist capital long popular with British holidaymakers.
