Styl Ceremony: 205 years of Lyon couture

Behind the Lyon Opera House, one address stands the test of time. Founded in 1820, Styl Cérémonie, long known as Styl Costumier, has witnessed two centuries of fashion, masked balls, and grand Lyon soirées. Once a costume supplier for the theater and the Kaamelott series, the workshop has reinvented itself as a specialist in formal wear.
Behind the Lyon Opera House lies a workshop where time seems to stand still: Styl Cérémonie, formerly known as Styl Costumier. Founded in 1820, the company has been perpetuating artisanal expertise for over two centuries, passed down through eight generations of tailors, dressmakers, and designers. Initially specializing in period costumes, from Antiquity to the Renaissance, including those of musketeers, pirates, pages, and the king's valets, it long supplied costumes for Lyon's costume balls and themed parties, as well as for historical reenactments and operettas in the city's small theaters. Among its notable achievements: it designed the costumes for the TV series Kaamelott, based on the world of King Arthur and the Round Table, starring Lyon native Alexandre Astier.
Today, Styl Cérémonie brings the spirit of formal wear to life in a new way, offering formal attire rentals for life's milestones such as weddings, funerals, and other official events, as well as bespoke accessories and presentation consulting. Morning suits, tuxedos, tailcoats: these exceptional garments, difficult to find anywhere but Paris, attract a clientele far beyond Lyon, including customers from Marseille, Clermont-Ferrand, and even from abroad, from Switzerland, Italy, and the United States. Fittings take place in the founders' former apartments, overlooking the Rhône River, at the same address for over 205 years. The place has retained a warm and discreet home atmosphere under the direction of Myrtille Macabéo Claudel, a former employee of the workshop, who took it over in 2018. Now the company operates with two full-time employees, and produces more than 1,000 costumes each year.
