Ius scholae, Forza Italia goes straight ahead. But the League relaunches with tax scrapping and flat tax

After the underground sparks over the increase in highway tolls, with the majority amendment first presented and then withdrawn, the government allies are back to arguing about the ius scholae. Antonio Tajani, in particular, responds indirectly to the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who had underlined that citizenship was not «among the priorities indicated in the program », arguing exactly the opposite. The reform of the Ius Italiae «is absolutely in tune with the center-right program» which «in article 6» speaks of «integration». Furthermore, the FI leader always points out, «in the last legislature, even Fratelli d'Italia was in favor» of the ten-year education program as a viaticum to become Italian citizens. Statements to which the League harshly responds («If Tajani wants, we will talk about it again perhaps in ten years. With us, to become Italian there can be no shortcuts of any kind»), while FdI responds with silence.
There is no need for controversy, is the mantra that more than one Melonian repeats. Subtext: the outcome of the referendums speaks clearly, let's move on. But the vice-premier of the blue party goes straight ahead and, while underlining that the priority now is the reform of justice, reiterates the will to bring the text of the Ius Italiae to the Chamber: «We want to open a debate at parliamentary level» and «the government has nothing to do with it». But the members of the Northern League do not share the same opinion: «Forget about Ius Scholae, full steam ahead with fiscal peace, scrapping of tax bills and flat tax!», the post with which the Salvinians start the day's clash . Enriched, over the hours, by the arguments of Claudio Borghi and Fabrizio Cecchetti: «With the League in Government, the priority remains our people. We leave the ius scholae to those who dream of a country without identity and without rules».
Entering the debate on the executive's priorities, Deputy Minister Maurizio Leo from Fratelli d'Italia sets very specific limits for the League on the scrapping. "It's not that we are against it", but now it is a question for the next Budget Law because "the financial perimeter of 2025 has been exhausted", and furthermore "the scrapping can be done, but it must not be erga omnes" but rather aimed only at those who are truly in difficulty. Tajani relaunches the Irpef cut for the middle class: the battle - he promises - will start after the summer (the period in which Forza will focus on the health dossier). And it will be combined with an initiative on civil justice "because the slowness of the civil process costs us 2-3% of GDP", money with which "many other things can be done: lower taxes, raise wages".
In the background, there is still controversy - internal and external to the majority - over the increase in motorway tolls contained in an amendment to the Infrastructure Decree, first presented by the rapporteurs and then withdrawn. A real hot potato for the Meloni government that has created friction between FdI and Lega on the paternity of the measure and that has seen the opposition take to the barricades against the "new tax on holidays". "It seems to me a solved problem, but we were not involved", Tajani comes out. While the secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein, in announcing the official withdrawal of the discordant amendment, puts her finger on the wound. "Giorgia Meloni must commit to no longer presenting the increase in tolls for Italians, not even in other forms, even in the next measures. And if they try again, we will stop them again". The M5s Giuseppe Conte says it is certain that the government "will try again to insert new taxes and price increases into the accounts of families who are already broke. They think people are stupid. Let's keep our guard up."
