Moncarapacho Jazz Festival celebrates 10 years with three nights of concerts

Concerts are free and always start at 9:45 pm, in Praça da República, in front of the Igreja da Misericórdia.
The Rouge Manouche quartet opens the festival on Thursday, the 4th, with a repertoire inspired by the golden years of jazz. The Algarve group recreates the sounds of jazz manouche and American standards from the 1930s and 1940s, paying homage to names such as Django Reinhardt, Charles Trenet and Cole Porter.
On stage will be Betty Martins (vocals and viola), João Campos Palma (accordion), Luís Fialho (guitar) and Luís Henrique (double bass), musicians with a solid track record on the jazz scene in the south of the country.
On Friday the 5th, Rossana, the alter ego of composer and singer Inês Barroso, will perform. Based in London, the artist mixes influences ranging from jazz to psy-rock , including Latin music, Portuguese folklore and electronica.
On stage, he presents songs from the albums «The Entertainer» and «À La Portugaise», the latter with more clearly Portuguese roots.
The sound is marked by the fusion of genres and the theatricality of the interpretations. She is accompanied by an international collective of musicians: Benjamin Lunn (electric guitar), Bruna Moura (cello), Hector Bonte (electric bass), James Doran (drums) and Pedro Almeida (percussion).
Musician and composer Júlio Pereira closes the festival on Saturday, the 6th, with a journey through the multiple sounds he has explored throughout his career.
An icon of the cavaquinho, he released the album «Cavaquinho» in 1981, which marked the beginning of a career that was recognized in Portugal and abroad.
In Moncarapacho, he presents his most recent work, «Rasgar», in CD-book format, and revisits some of his most emblematic themes.
He takes the stage with Sandra Martins (cello), Miguel Veras (guitar) and Ricardo Silva (Portuguese guitar).
In addition to the music, MonJazz stands out for its proximity to the public and the intimate atmosphere of Praça da República, in a meeting between tradition and musical innovation that marks the parish's cultural calendar.
The Union of Parishes of Moncarapacho and Fuseta organizes the festival, with the support of the municipality of Olhão , the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Moncarapacho and the Viveiros Monterosa .
