🌋 Mount Rinjani , one of Indonesia's most iconic trekking routes, has been an unforgettable adventure destination for thousands of nature lovers for years. However, this fascinating volcano was recently the scene of a terrible tragedy.
During her morning walk in Rinjani, 26-year-old Brazilian traveler Juliana Marins slipped off the edge of the crater and fell into a cliff. The young woman, who could not be rescued for four days due to stormy weather, rocky ground and difficult terrain, did not survive despite all efforts.
Mount Rinjani , Indonesia's second highest volcano with a height of 3,726 meters, is a favorite not only of nature lovers but also of adrenaline-seeking adventurers.
🏞️ Segara Anak Lake is located in the caldera of this huge mountain and offers its visitors surreal beauties. With its ecosystem ranging from tropical forests to volcanic rocks, Rinjani is also a peak that should always be climbed with caution as it is an active volcano .
This mountain, which attracts thousands of visitors every year, has also been the scene of many dangerous incidents in recent years. Hundreds of tourists were trapped in the massive earthquake in 2018, and some lost their lives.
📅 On the morning of June 22 , Juliana Marins, who started climbing with a guided hiking group, lost her balance and slid off the edge of the crater at around 06:30. She survived the fall and started calling for help.
But stormy weather conditions, thick fog and the steepness of the cliff made the rescue team’s job impossible. Drone searches located Marins, but it took four days to reach him. Unfortunately, by the time they did, it was too late…
💬 “There was hope of survival during those four days,” said his family and followers, who called for a rapid rescue through campaigns launched on social media. However, the soft, slippery ground prevented aid teams from descending using ropes.
Indonesian authorities claimed that food and water were delivered to the young woman. However, both the Brazilian Embassy and Marins' family did not believe this statement and claimed that Juliana had been hungry and thirsty for days.
📸 “Today, the rescue team managed to reach the location of Juliana Marins. It is with great sadness that we share the news that she did not survive.”
🌍 As the Nature Activities & Adventure Sports Page, Turkey's gateway to nature , we closely follow outdoor events not only in Turkey but all over the world.
Juliana Marins' story shows how impressive natural wonders like Rinjani can also be unpredictable and dangerous .
Mountains are not only a view; they are also the harshest face of nature. Every adventure enthusiast should evaluate the risks well, prepare physically and fully comply with the safety protocols before setting out on a journey.
🛑 The Indonesian Forestry Ministry has temporarily closed all hiking routes on Mount Rinjani following the tragedy. This decision was made both out of respect for Marins' family and to ensure the healthy conduct of the difficult rescue efforts, once again revealing the seriousness of the danger in the region.
Juliana Marins was not just a traveler, but a young soul passionately exploring the world . She chose a life at one with nature, backpacking through Thailand and Vietnam.
He now leaves a mark on the harsh winds of Rinjani and the silent waters of Lake Segara Anak. In the heart of every nature lover, his story will continue to live as a lesson, a warning and an inspiration.

Safety Precautions in Nature Sports and Outdoor Activities
- In all outdoor activities and nature sports, safety is your primary responsibility. No article or video can replace proper practical training and personal experience.
- Especially in outdoor extreme sports, you are primarily responsible for your own personal safety. Always prioritize your personal safety and the harmony and safety of the team you are with.
- In all cases, be on the side of nature , keep the environment clean, and never harm wild animals or the nature where wildlife lives.
- While exploring natural and historical beauties, you should pay attention to some important points for your holiday to be enjoyable and safe. Before your trip, do detailed research about the region you will go to , check the weather conditions and take appropriate clothes with you. Never damage natural, historical and touristic places. Do not leave your garbage in the places you go, take your garbage back to where you came from in bags as you brought it or throw it in a garbage container.
- If you are planning a nature trip, camping or outdoor activity, be sure to pack all the necessary equipment .
- In Turkey, there are frequent bans on entering forests and some protected areas, and administrative fines are imposed on those who do not comply. You should verify current forest entry bans from the provincial Regional Forestry Directorates.
- Technically, all outdoor activities in nature require prior permission. Our advice to our readers, campers, nature walkers and those who participate in all outdoor sports is to at least call the law enforcement authorities before starting the activity and inform them about the nature activity and routes they will be doing.
