Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, stated that several cold records were set in Yakutia and the Magadan region.
Leus stated that the "coldest" record was set in the city of Susuman in the Magadan Region, where temperatures dropped to -18.2°C. Record-breaking temperatures were also recorded in the villages of Seichmchan, Tiksi, and Zhigansk.
The record cold, according to the meteorologist, is due to the fact that climate change leads not only to global warming, that is, an increase in average temperatures across the planet, but also to frequent extreme warmings or cold spells.
