Gevork Sargsyan, accused of fraud against renowned singer Oleg Gazmanov and his wife, holds a US green card. This information is contained in court documents accessed by RIA Novosti.

According to the documents, Sarkisyan lived in the United States legally with relatives, exercising his permanent residence status.

Earlier, Gazmanov's family representative, Roman Kuzmin, reported that in 2019, the artist and his wife loaned Sargsyan money he had been saving for retirement. A year later, Sargsyan failed to repay the money, after which the Gazmanovs filed a fraud complaint with the Russian Investigative Committee.

Law enforcement agencies confirmed to RIA Novosti that the suspect was detained in Moscow. He was a Russian citizen with no prior criminal record.

Furthermore, other victims are implicated in the case, including Marina Lebedeva, an acquaintance of Gazmanov's. According to her representative, Sarkisyan positioned himself as a successful businessman and offered to invest in an American project that never materialized.

The defendant denies fraud, but confirms that he took money from the victims. His defense claims the relationship was business-like and was formalized by commercial contracts that were not fulfilled for a number of objective reasons.

The case continues, the investigation is clarifying all the circumstances of the incident.
