Some time ago, most Russian graduates sought to obtain a legal or economic education, but now the leading fields in choosing a university are information technology, pedagogy and other areas. This was reported by the Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov in a conversation with RBC within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
"We see that trends are changing, information technology is the leading program in terms of the number of people entering universities. In second place is the pedagogical direction, we are also very happy about this. Therefore, priorities are changing," Kravtsov stated. According to him, this was achieved thanks to a set of measures, including work on professional self-determination and information support.
As for secondary vocational education institutions, students also prefer engineering disciplines, mechanical engineering, construction, as well as medical and pedagogical specialties. Kravtsov noted that this year the number of graduates who chose the Unified State Exam in physics increased by 16%, and specialized mathematics - by 10%.
The Minister believes that in the long term, more effective work with teenagers experiencing adaptation difficulties and with children who have academic debt is required for the development of the educational system. Kravtsov emphasized that over the past five years, the share of underachieving schoolchildren has decreased from 25% to 15%. It is important to provide support to those who face communication difficulties so that students master all subjects at a decent level, and not just those included in the OGE or USE, the Minister added.
According to Rosobrnadzor, the average USE score in physics among those who took it in the main period has decreased compared to the previous year: from 63.21 to 61.79. The agency attributes this to an increase in the total number of participants, including students with different levels of training. In 2025, 13 thousand people (16%) more took the physics exam than the year before. The total number of participants exceeded 94 thousand people.
