On September 24, the second M1.6 solar flare of the day was recorded in sunspot group 4224, the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IAG) told TASS . The event occurred at 10:13 PM Moscow time and lasted approximately 25 minutes. Earlier that day, a less powerful M1.0 flare was recorded.
According to forecasts from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, increased solar flare activity has been observed for several days, posing a moderate risk to Earth. M-class flares are the penultimate level on the X-ray emission scale and can be accompanied by solar plasma ejections capable of triggering magnetic storms on Earth.
Previously, a magnetic storm was reported on September 24, 2025.
