Complaints about exorbitant prices in tourist areas exceed 2,000

Complaints about exorbitant prices are on the rise in tourist areas. According to information provided by Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy to parliamentary questions, a total of 1,994 complaints were made in 2024, including 1,032 to the ALO 176 hotline and 962 to CİMER.
Minister Ersoy stated that complaints are being investigated within the scope of relevant legislation and that administrative sanctions are being imposed on businesses found to be in violation. Emphasizing that tourism businesses are required to have their price tariffs approved by the Provincial Directorates of Culture and Tourism, Ersoy said, "The applied prices must be displayed in a manner that is easily visible to customers. During inspections, the compliance of applied prices with approved tariffs is verified."
Ersoy emphasized that strict inspections of travel agencies are ongoing, saying, “The operating licenses of agencies that engage in behavior that deceives customers and undermines public trust are revoked under Law No. 1618.”
Minister Ersoy also shared information about tourism promotion efforts. He noted that in 2024, more than 200 countries underwent intensive promotion through TV, digital media, and tour operators, and that Türkiye hosted 3,850 foreign representatives from 85 countries. Ersoy noted that the GoTürkiye platform had reached 9 million visitors as of January 2025, and its social media accounts had a total of 19.2 million followers.
